Howard Garrett "The Dirt Doctor"
Get expert advice from seminars on Natural Organic Gardening and Trees from The Dirt Doctor on Saturday.
Howard Garrett is a nationally syndicated radio host, arborist, and leading authority on natural organic gardening and living. Known as the “Dirt Doctor,” he has authored 15 books, chairs the Texas Organic Research Center, and has served on the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Organic Advisory Board.
With a background in landscape architecture from Texas Tech University, Howard transitioned fully into organics in the late 1980s, pioneering large-scale commercial conversions—including Frito-Lay’s national headquarters—and advancing research on natural planting techniques, native species, and major water-saving practices.
His consulting work spans major corporations, educational institutions, and agricultural operations, including recent projects supporting organic hemp production. Howard hosts a weekly radio show heard in over 240 markets, writes a regular column for The Dallas Morning News, and reaches millions through DirtDoctor.com.
John Dromgoole
John Dromgoole grew up in Laredo, Texas and, without a doubt, his love of plants (and Mexican culture) can be traced to his roots in South Texas. John left the Rio Grande Valley in the early 70’s and moved to Austin where he quickly became part of the city’s newly emerging natural foods and organic gardening scene. They didn’t know it at the time, but John and his friends were pioneering a new way of life. They were helping to lay the groundwork for today’s organic revolution.
In 1993, John purchased an old homestead on Old Bee Caves Road in far southwest Austin and proceeded to build his award-winning business. With a top-notch staff, The Natural Gardener’s eight acres developed into not only a retail organic garden center, but a destination for all.
John has remained deeply involved in the advancement of organics and environmental issues for more than 40 years. Today, he is one of the nation’s foremost champions on organic gardening, enduring radio host, TV personality and public speaker.
John retired from hosting his call-in gardening show on KLBJ AM, Gardening Naturally, in 2019, after almost forty years on air.
John has been an organic gardening trailblazer on TV, too, hosting the first-ever national organic gardening series on PBS, The New Garden. He made regular appearances on the Central Texas Gardener and continues to appear on NBC’s local affiliate, KXAN with his weekly segment, The Weekend Gardener.
John can often be found at his store, The Natural Gardener, where he continues to share his knowledge and his passion for protecting Mother Earth and all living things.
Appearing Saturday only!
