CELEBRITY GUESTS

Mark Bowe, Star of DIY Network's "Barnwood Builders"

Mark Bowe, host of DIY Network’s Barnwood Builders, worked his way through West Virginia University as a coal miner, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a craftsman, a businessman, a historian, and a passable break-dancer (if you give him enough room). Mark also holds a master’s degree in safety management from WVU College. He founded his company, Antique Cabins and Barns, in 1995. He and his longtime crew have reclaimed more than 400 pioneer-era structures. Barnwood Builders is the number 1 show on DIY and Mark is a dynamic speaker that audiences love.

Boyce Thompson, Home Tech Guru

An author and public speaker, Boyce Thompson curates a Life-Changing Products exhibit that appeared at ten of the largest American home shows in 2017. To identify products that redefine life at home, Thompson monitors crowd-funding campaigns, attends industry trade shows, and scours magazines and websites. The exhibit includes groundbreaking products that just hit the market and along with prototypes that aren’t yet available for sale.

Previous exhibits have featured air conditioners that sense how many people are in the room; smart grid appliances that know the best time to run; inexpensive voice- and motion-activated home automation systems; and deadbolts that monitor who is at the door. The exhibit allows show-goers to use the products in an interactive fashion. Thompson also delivers seminars that explore trends that drive the do-it-yourself, remodeling, and new home markets.

The exhibit generates significant media coverage. Thompson has appeared on morning television shows and in daily newspapers in Detroit, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, San Jose, Grand Rapids, and Raleigh, among other markets. Exhibit coverage has appeared on websites run by The Associated Press, U.S. Today, MSN, and the Huffington Post.
